Help me with life I am a senior in high school this year. I will be going off to college next year, and up until I started riding motorcycles last year it has always been computer engineering that I wanted to go into. It's still a VERY viable option, but I'm increasingly becoming interested in trying to find some sort of engineering that could correlate in some way to motorcycles/auto. The best moments in life happened on my motorcycle in the last year, and if a job is viable I feel that could be the best way to go for me to be happy working for the rest of my life. I'm not quite sure what jobs, besides mechanic, are really viable with motorcycles. So, my question: What careers have you guys heard of, experienced, known, etc. etc. that relate to motorcycles in the engineering field? Or dealing with motorcycles? The closest things you know of?

I had a friend that went to MMI and become a well trained mechanic. After a few years him and a buddy left the dealerships they were at and opened their own shop. They were doing really well with steady business. But eventually he got burnt out and decided to enlist in the army. They closed up shop and I asked him why and he said the money was good but turning your hobby into your career kind of takes the fun out of it. I understand that your planning on a higher level than he was at but it may still fit. I'd think your best bet would be try to get ahold of some manufactures of bikes and components. In Ohio your going to be limited to Honda (they don't build bikes here but sometimes test them near Marysville), Showa, or Harley if you travel. I can't think of anyone else off hand. Maybe look into R+D there's a place beside the Honda plant called TRC that does all sorts of testing but most of the engineers there work for Honda. You could get into tires those are always changing but the closest would be Goodyear and they aren't really known for motorcycle tires. You could contact Don Guhl of Guhl motorsports, he is the go to guy for getting the computer on your bike reflashed. They do a lot of performance stuff there and are a small enough shop that you can probably get in and talk to them about your career choice and how to go about it. They are in Pennsylvania somewhere. No matter what interest you pursue in life it wil eventually become just a job that you do for money. My primary interest in high school was automobiles. I was in college prep but the guys in the auto mechanics tech program would bring their cars to me to tune (this was in the early seventies when emissions controls were new & absolutely ruined the performance of cars.) Everyone was always saying, "Why don't you become a mechanical engineer since you love cars so much?" My reason was I didn't want to ruin my passion by making it my job. I knew that VERY FEW jobs are really something enjoyable, but are a means to an end. I decided I wanted to do something that would allow me to make enough money to enjoy my hobby (cars, then later motorcycles) and still be a job that I at least wouldn't hate to do the rest of my life. You will find out that there is NO job that ends up being what you think it is and no matter what, you'll have good and bad days. So, what did I decide to become? An optometrist! In no way related to cars/bikes but a career wih good hours, good working conditions and good pay. I've been successfully self employed for 30 years, raised a family, and played with a number of cool bikes & cars over the past 30+ years.

Sergei Magnitsky Case: Prosecutors Drop Accusations In Death Of Whistleblower

MOSCOW, Dec 24 (Reuters) - Russian prosecutors on Monday dropped their accusations against the only person being tried in connection with the prison death of anti-corruption lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, asking a court to find a former prison official not guilty.

The surprise move in the trial of Dmitry Kratov came in the midst of a row between Moscow and Washington over U.S. legislation meant to punish Russians seen as linked to the death of Magnitsky and other alleged human rights violations.

If the court clears Kratov, a former deputy head of a jail where Magnitsky spent part of a year, it will fuel accusations by Kremlin critics that the Russian government has no intention of seeking justice in a case that has blackened Russia's image.

"We have not determined what happened, and the biggest tragedy here is that ... this may have been our last chance to ask questions" of people who may have been involved, said Dmitry Kharitonov, a lawyer for Magnitsky's widow and family.

U.S. President Barack Obama on Dec. 14 signed a law known as the Magnitsky Act, which directs his administration to bar accused Russian human rights violators from entering the United States and freeze any assets they have in U.S. banks.

Russia is retaliating with a bill expected to be approved by the upper house of parliament this week. It would apply similar measures to Americans accused of violating the rights of Russians and also bar Americans from adopting Russian children.

Magnitsky died in November 2009 after nearly a year in jail - the victim, former colleagues say, of retribution from the same police investigators he had accused of stealing $230 million from the state through fraudulent tax refunds.

His death caused an international outcry and Kremlin critics said it underscored the dangers risks run by Russians who challenge the authorities. The Kremlin's own human rights council said Magnitsky was probably beaten to death.

ROLE REVERSAL

Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president at the time, fired several senior prison officials and ordered a investigation, but Kratov, charged with negligence, is the only person now on trial or facing trial in connection with his death.

State prosecutor Konstantin Bokov told the court there was no direct link between the actions of Kratov - who he said followed the rules of his job and had never received a health complaint from Magnitsky - and the lawyer's death.

The court is expected to rule on Friday on Kratov's guilt or innocence.

Kharitonov said a guilty verdict was still possible but unlikely, and he accused the prosecutors of avoiding testimony by several witnesses by saying last week that there was enough evidence for a guilty verdict and speeding the trial to an end.

"The prosecutors essentially defended Kratov, rather than prosecuting him," he said in an interview on cable TV and internet channel Dozhd.

He said he believed Russian prosecutors want Kratov cleared to avoid any suggestion they themselves are culpable in the death of Magnitsky, which occurred after prosecutors backed efforts to keep him in jail on tax evasion charges.

Kharitonov said the prosecutors also wanted to ensure they were on the right side in the conflict over the new U.S. law.

"The easiest thing for the prosecutor's office to do is to say that nobody is guilty - and if nobody is guilty, then why is the Magnitsky Act needed?" the lawyer said.

He said Magnitsky's family would demand that the state continue investigating his death.

Verizon customer database hacked; 300,000 entries leaked online

According to ZDNet, a hacker has gained access to over 3 million records from Verizon Wireless customer database. The information includes names, addresses, serial numbers, and passwords. The hacker gained access to the server on July 12, and claims to have contacted Verizon, but since the have reportedly ignored his report, he has pasted 300,000 of the records online. Supposedly these database is broken up into regions, and the leaked region is in and around Pennsylvania. The records are stored in plain text, and the hacker "might leak the rest later".

If you're a Verizon customer, now would be a good time to change your account password. We're not going to go into the details or link to the pastebin of account data. We hate delivering this sort of news, but we know you need to be informed. We hope Verizon is quick to address the issue, and look forward to hearing their side of things.
