Ask Your Preacher ? Blog Archive ? Long-Distance Relationship

? ? ?I am having issues with some people. ?They are making me sin. ?They are making?me sin by making?me use bad words. ?What should I do?? Should I keep trying to get along or stay away from that person?

Sincerely,
Foul Friends

Dear Foul Friends,

No one can make you sin, but on the other hand, the wrong type of people can definitely lead to greater temptations.? 1 Cor 15:33 says that bad company corrupts good morals.? If you feel that this person is that type of influence, then yes, it may be best to give some distance.

USMilitary.com Editor Reports Nuclear Weapon Proliferation A Threat of Immeasurable Proportion

Author Paul Evancoe claims that as rogue nations like Iran, Myanmar and North Korea proceed in their nuclear weapon development quest, the threat of terrorists acquiring and using a nuclear weapon against us increases exponentially.

Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) January 18, 2013

Paul Evancoe, a former Navy Seal and a featured columnist for USMilitary.com, reports that the current world of nuclear weapon states fall into two categories ? those who have declared their nuclear weapon capability and those who proliferate them without admitting it. The declared nuclear weapon states are China, Russia, France, Great Britain, and the United States. The proliferate nuclear weapon states who are known to currently possess nuclear weapons are India, Israel, and Pakistan. According to Evancoe, those states known to be actively seeking and/or developing nuclear weapons are Iran, Myanmar, and North Korea. There are also a number of states that have, for a variety of reasons, aborted their weapon programs. They are Iraq, Libya, Brazil, Taiwan, Argentina, South Africa, and South Korea.

According to Evancoe, a "proliferation of nuclear weapons technology and the special nuclear material required to build a nuclear weapon has remained a top national security concern for the United States and the NATO allies."

Today?s nuclear proliferation threat may include a wide range of non-traditional elements so abstract that intelligence analysts may simply not recognize the indicators reports Evancoe.

Evancoe goes on to say, "a little considered, yet major ?wild card? in this complex problem of proliferation involves people. There are thousands of technically trained and experienced persons with detailed knowledge of, and access to, former Warsaw Pact forces weapon development facilities, stockpiles and maintenance depots. The potential for some of these people to ?sell out? to the black market, or go to work for the highest bidder in a renegade country, is a threat of immeasurable heights, and it is believed that some have. This makes proliferation even more difficult to control since the inventory of hardware and materials is significantly different than the inventory of the depth of knowledge and understanding that people possess. In view of difficult economic conditions throughout most of the Former Soviet Union, coupled with the Islamic Revolution throughout the Middle East and Africa, the risk of selling weapon development intellectual knowledge on the black market runs extremely high."

Evancoe further claims that the reality of the unfolding new world order dictates that it is not a matter of if terrorists will use nuclear weapons against us, but rather when it will happen. It can be argued that the odds of such an event occurring are probably low but the consequences are unarguably high. It is precisely the RDD and IND threat that international treaties and lofty sounding policies cannot prevent. And, it may prove to be the Achilles Heel of otherwise diligent national and international non-proliferation efforts. Sleep well.

5 Steps to Success as a Professional Photographer - Online ...

    by Guest Contributor Steven McConnell

    1. Why Are You Here?

It?s tempting to begin this article with some sound business advice, like social marketing tips and SEO revelations. Those are important, but there?s no shortage of that kind of advice on the Internet.

What I find not many people in photography community talk about is the need for the right headspace from which to build your business.

I need to make a quick side note ? when I mention ?building your photography business?, I include every photographer who works as a freelancer, who is represented by an agency or who actually has a physical business/studio. The methods through which we get clients may differ, but at the core we are all business owners first and photographers second.

Back to my original point ? business skills are completely useless to you if you don?t ensure that your head is in the right place to start your photography business.

To see what I mean, watch this short TED video, where Simon Sinek shares gives an insight into the minds of powerful business leaders:

The point he is making is that until you know for sure Why you?re in business of photography, you don?t stand much chance of making it against your competition.

    2. What?s Your Dirty Secret?

And I think Simon is on the right track, but he stops a little short.

It seems he is hinting at the need to artificially create an answer to ?Why am I starting a photography business??, and then to communicate it through your marketing in order to have a positive impact on your customers.

I?ll assert that it?s not enough.

Most people struggle with, or completely avoid, answering ?Why?? because of a dirty little secret: they actually know the real reason very well, but it?s not something they want to share with their potential customers (or agents they?re showing their portfolio to).

And the real reason is something like this: they?re starting a business because they hope to get rich (and they think then they?ll be happy). Or, they finally won?t have a boss telling them what to do. Or, something else along those lines.

I invite you to consider this: in order to succeed as a photographer, you need to find a deeper, greater, more inspiring reason for you to take this plunge.

    3. What Do You Care About Most?

Here?s the best way I know to find this reason. Ask yourself this question:

?If I won $100,000,000 (yes, a hundred million dollars), what would I spend the rest of my life doing?

Sure, you?d spend some time having a good time and spending your fortune, but after a while you?d have to stop and think ? what are you going to do with the rest of your life? What?s your life going to be about?

Your basic needs are very much taken care of. You can live like a king just off the interest your money makes. And you can buy ? and have probably already bought ? just about everything you?ve ever wanted.

    Now what?

I challenge you to deeply examine that question. Do not continue reading this article until you at least take a decent shot at answering it. Go sit in an empty room and meditate on it if you have to. Look within you for an answer, because that answer is the most important thing you?ll discover in your entire life.

Do not continue reading until you do it.

    4. What Did You Discover?

So, who are you at heart? Deep down, what do you dream about? What was your answer? Would you:

    - Travel? If so, where would you go? And why?
    - Paint? If so, what would you paint? And why?
    - Take photos? That?s a likely one since you?re here, right? If so, what would you photograph the most? Why?
    - Build something? What would you build? Where would you build it? And why?
    - Start a website? What would it be called? For whom? Why would people go there?
    - Invest into something? What kind of company or organization? How much? Why?
    - Donate to a cause? Same as above!
    - Learn about something? What would you love to study? Why that?
    - Start a family? What would it look like? Why now?
    - Go meditate and eat grasshoppers somewhere on a mountain in Tibet? What are you hoping to discover? Why?

Now, take away the hundred million bucks and start looking for ways to include that, which matters most to you, in your photography business. Keep reading to find out how.

    5. The Secret Sauce.

Ask yourself this: how would you connect your answer to the above question to the day-to-day operations of your photography business? To put another way, what will you do as a photographer which will, to some degree, reflect what you care about most?

If travel is important to you, how can you combine that with photography? And if you?re a techno-geek, how can you use photography to make a difference in that field?

Your photography business has to, at the very least, be somehow related to the answer you gave. But ideally (for full points!) you must create the kind of photography business which will make a real, meaningful difference in the field that you care about the most.

Don?t choose to become a fashion photographer just because it?s ?cool?. It?s not. And don?t become an advertising photographer because you think you?ll get stinking rich shooting photos for Telstra billboards. Those are surface-level motivations which will not help you on your journey.

Do this exercise to find an authentic, powerful answer to ?Why?? that Sinek is talking about.

It will give you an edge in positioning yourself in the sea of other photographers and help you communicate about your business in a way which makes people sit up and listen.

Exercise can help in battle to give up smoking | This is Plymouth

LATEST figures, from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), have revealed that Plymouth has an average of around 48,566 smokers who collectively spend over ?1m buying tobacco every week.

We experience 600 avoidable, early deaths every year from smoking related disease and although Plymouth was one of the first cities to set up a free NHS Stop Smoking Service some 14 years ago, in 1999, smoking prevalence remains higher in Plymouth than the England average.

    1. EXPERT ADVICE: Gym instructor Les Crawford guides Annie Wakeham in the fitness suite of the Derriford Health and Leisure Centre. Top, pounding out the miles on running machines

But health professionals are working hard to tackle the city's single biggest cause of premature death and disease and are now promoting exercise as a way of helping people to kick the deadly habit.

Professor Adrian Taylor, from the University of Exeter, has been working with Plymouth's Stop Smoking Service since 2007.

He recently carried out a study with 99 residents from Stonehouse and Devonport looking at how physical activity can be used to help those wanting to cut down on the amount of cigarettes they smoke.

He said: "Although the study wasn't with people who wanted to quit smoking, just cut down, what we found was that over eight weeks 22 per cent of those who were receiving support from the service attempted to quit, compared to only 6 per cent of those who weren't receiving support.

"Some of those people involved in the study increased their physical activity more than others and some found it to be very useful.

"Not every smoker can see the relevance of physical activity in trying to quit, but certainly for some people it helps prevent weight gain, acts as a distraction, and also helps that person reinvent themselves as a non-smoker and get away from their old smoker identity.

"A lot of health services are now looking at physical activity as an aid to stopping smoking.

"But it's not a simple case of just sending people to the gym and hoping for the best. We need to promote it as something that is specifically useful, in the same way nicotine replacement therapy is useful. It's all about getting people to think about how physical activity can help them to quit."

And Russ Moody, senior public health manager for tobacco control at Public Health Plymouth, said exercise is only going to become more apparent as a useful quit tool as the research unfolds.

He said: "There is an emergence of evidence which shows us that the link between people who exercise and are successful in quitting is becoming stronger and stronger.

"Exercise makes people feel better, helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and helps people deal with stress ? all things people tend to experience when they try to quit.

"We are promoting exercise in the Stop Smoking Service more and more as a way to help people quit and will continue to do so."

Apple iPad 5 Rumors: Features To Be ?Significantly Lighter And Slimmer,? With A Release Date In Q3 2013 [REPORT]

Let?s get one thing straight: Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the best in the business. He is a consistently accurate analyst: For example, last year, Kuo correctly predicted Apple?s entire product slate for the second half of 2012 ? from two new iPads (including the iPad Mini and iPad 4 at the end of the year), the Retina Display MacBook Pro, the redesigned iMac and much more ? as well as the respective release dates for each of those devices. Kuo hit the nail on the head with almost every Apple product last year, so more so than other analysts, Kuo?s predictions should be greatly considered when talking about future iDevices.

That said, Kuo believes the design of the next full-size iPad will more closely resemble Apple?s newly-released iPad Mini, which features a full aluminum enclosure for lightness, thinner side bezels, and a diamond-cut chamfer finish.

Besides the iPad 5, Kuo predicts Apple will refresh the Apple TV experience in the first quarter of 2013, while waiting until the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third quarter to release a slew of new Mac and iOS devices, including two new iPhones, a second-generation iPad Mini, a new MacBook Air, a newly redesigned Retina MacBook Pro, and refreshes to the iPod Touch and Nano. Kuo believes Apple will reserve the fourth quarter to unveil an updated iMac and a new Mac Mini.

What Others Are Saying About The iPad 5

Contrasting Kuo?s report saying Apple?s chosen iPad 5 release date would be sometime in Q3 2013, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White said on Jan. 11 that Apple would release the iPad 5, as well as the iPad Mini 2, in just two months from now.

?Our checks at CES indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the second-generation iPad Mini this March,? White wrote in a new note from CES 2013. ?The iPad 5 is expected to be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4 that was released in October, while the form factor of the iPad Mini should be similar to the first generation iPad Mini that debuted in October.?

White?s prediction had lined up with a previous?report from Macotakara?in December, which said Apple would release a fifth-generation iPad in March 2013, which would have a ?thinner and lighter? design similar to the iPad Mini. That same Macotakara report said Apple was also working on the iPad Mini 2, with the same 7.9-inch LCD display, but with twice as many pixels (2048 x 1536) and an A6X processor, the same chip used to power the iPad 4.

Even though Apple?s update cycles for iOS products have shortened over the years, it would be relatively surprising to see two brand-new tablets release just a few months after the first iPad Mini and iPad 4 arrived in October. In all likelihood, Kuo?s prediction of new iPads arriving in late summer or early fall makes the most sense, given how the entire iPad line-up was just so recently refreshed. It seems unlikely Apple would push up the iPad 5 release date ?to March, which would indicate Apple?s trending towards a bi-annual release cycle for its tablets; last year seems like the exception to the rule, rather than the start of a new trend at Apple.

Back in November, China-based DigiTimes?reported on?Apple?s plans to release its next generation of iOS devices, including a new iPhone and a new iPad, ?around the middle of 2013.?

    iPad 5: What We Know

We?ve heard very little about the iPad 5 besides Kuo?s report, but due to the number of reports, we believe Apple?s next-generation 9.7-inch iPad will focus mainly on the display.

Even though the in-cell technologies used to create the iPhone 5?s display made the screen thinner, brighter and stronger, Apple is apparently very interested in switching to Sharp?s ultra-thin IGZO technology:

In late December, DigiTimes?and Apple analyst?Horace Dediu?both mentioned Apple?s alleged investment in the ultra-thin IGZO displays produced by Sharp, predicting inclusion of the technology in Apple?s next batch of iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads. Dediu also pointed to Apple?s recent $2.3 billion investment in ?product tooling, manufacturing process equipment and infrastructure,? believing the cash was used to help bail out Sharp, which had been in financial straits in 2012. If Sharp is really going ?all in? on IGZO technology as it was reported, it?s possible Apple saved Sharp to leverage its investment in the next generation of displays.

IGZO display technology is not only thin and tough, but it can even handle higher screen densities than Apple?s Retina Display, which is visually stunning on its own. IGZO displays can reportedly handle display densities north of 330 ppi; for a quick comparison, the new iPad 4 can only achieve 264 ppi.

One of the better advantages of IGZO display technology is its lower power consumption. Most Apple products, including the iPad 3 and 4, require cartoonishly-big batteries to achieve just 8 hours of power -- this is because current-gen Retina Displays are extremely power hungry. If Apple wanted its iPhone 6 to not only last longer during the day but also charge faster when plugged in, IGZO seems to be the way to go for the next generation of iOS devices.

Giving credence to these rumors, Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) is reportedly?developing?a Retina Display for the next-generation iPad Mini, which may require IGZO technology to pull off a feasible Retina Display.

Besides the display, we know what Kuo?s told us about the thinner and lighter build and form factor, and we?ve also seen a few interesting iPad patents for?a built-in stand, and?backside controls?for gaming. We?ll likely hear more about the iPad 5?s features as we approach the tablet?s release date this year.

Apple?sold?14 million iPad units in Q4 2012, and plans to announce sales figures for the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad Mini during the company?s?Q1 2013 earnings report, scheduled to release on Jan. 23.

3 candidates remain for Gulf football coaching job

By ANDY VILLAMARZO | Tribune correspondent

The search for Gulf High's next football coach is entering its final stages.

Buccaneers athletic director Travis DeWalt said the school's final three candidates are former University of South Florida player and grad assistant Michael Lube, Chamberlain assistant Ken Davis and East Lake assistant Jason Messamore, who coached on East Lake's past two Class 8A region finalist squads.

"All three candidates possess extensive experience and interviewed extremely well," DeWalt said in an email. "We are excited about our three finalists and eagerly look forward to their second interview."

One of these three finalists will take over a Gulf program that has struggled the past two seasons. The Buccaneers were a combined 2-18 under former Land O' Lakes assistant and Gulf coach Tom Carter, who resigned last month.

Gulf passed on five other potential candidates, which included current Buccaneers weightlifting and girls basketball assistant Bruno Buonsanto, former Anclote assistant Craig Moore, Gibbs assistant Chris Sands, Naples native Joe Skladany and East Lake youth coach Pete DiNovo, who is the father of University of Central Florida commitment Pete DiNovo, Jr.

The Buccaneers will be the last team in the county to fill its coaching vacancy for football. Wiregrass Ranch promoted offensive coordinator Mike Lawrence and Wesley Chapel named former Wiregrass Ranch assistant Tico Hernandez to succeed Ben Alford.

Polls give hard-line bloc edge in Israel elections

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Polls give hawkish and religious parties led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a comfortable edge over their center-left rivals ahead of next week's parliamentary elections.

Surveys published Wednesday night and on Thursday have Netanyahu's Likud Beiteinu list winning 32 to 37 of parliament's 120 seats, making it the best positioned to form Israel's next government.

A Dialog service poll gives Netanyhu's bloc 64 seats, versus 56 for the opposing camp. A total of 756 people were polled; the error margin was 3.7 percent points.

New Wave Research's poll gave the hard-line bloc 67 seats. Its survey of 810 people had a 3.5 percentage point error margin.

The Maagar Mohot survey gave the hawkish bloc 72 seats. Its poll of 596 people had an error margin of 4.5 percentage points.

    Unbearably Delicious

130114_FOOD_Bear Beat, it's what for dinner.

    Robert Neubecker

The growl of my truck engine dropped an octave as I shifted gears to climb a hill and then began making my way around a bend. The twisty road in the woods of Central Virginia was dappled with late-afternoon sunlight. My mind was on what I would make for dinner?I wondered whether I had any sour cream?until I came around the bend and saw an SUV stopped in the middle of the road. I slammed on my brakes and squealed to a stop.

Moments before I arrived on the scene, the SUV?s driver?s plans for the day had been interrupted by a black bear trotting out in front of her vehicle. She?d hit the bear, wrecking the front end of her SUV in the process. Another vehicle had immediately also clipped the bear, and now all three of us were out of our cars, trying to sort the situation out. The bear and the SUV were the only casualties.

I?m a professional hunting guide, so my first concern was for the bear, which lay dying on its side in the middle of the road. It was struggling to get up with its front paws, but its back legs were clearly paralyzed, and there was no hope for the animal. I put down several wounded deer by the side of the road each year, but I had neglected to stash a spare rifle in my truck that morning. I did, however, have a very large hunting knife. A quick jab in the heart ended the animal?s suffering.

I dragged the bear out of the road so traffic could start moving again, and then I waited for the police to arrive in order to obtain permission to keep the bear. (Being in possession of a dead bear outside of bear-hunting season can get you charged with poaching unless you get special approval.) I had realized that this was as perfect an opportunity as I would ever have to find out what bear meat tastes like. Disassembling a 150-pound dead bear wasn?t what I?d had planned for the evening (I?d intended to catch up on The Walking Dead), but I?m a carpe diem kind of guy. An hour later I found myself the proud, legal owner of one dead black bear.

Black bears look like a cross between humans and big, silly dogs. The idea of eating one had always seemed just shy of cannibalism to me. I hunt deer regularly for food, but I had never eaten?let alone butchered?a bear. But is there any good reason the bear should be a sacred cow? Especially a bear that was already dead? There was nothing unethical about eating an animal in this situation, except maybe by the very strictest vegan standards. It wasn?t moral revulsion that I had to get over, exactly?it was more like neophobia. However, as a hunter and writer specializing in killing and eating invasive species (a great way to eat sustainably and help the ecosystem at the same time), I?ve had to force myself to get over hang-ups about food on many occasions.

The butchering was easier than I had expected. With the exception of removing the paws, it wasn?t much different from working on a deer. The fur was longer and thicker, but the hide wasn?t much tougher. The bone structure of the lower limbs was radically different, though: The bones were much thicker, and they were surrounded by numerous broad sinews. Everything in those limbs communicated power?while also reminding me a bit of human anatomy. Within a few hours I had a fridge full of around 60 pounds of bear meat.

Now I had heard all sorts of stories from hunters about what bear meat is like: that it?s tough, gamey, and unpleasantly greasy. But in my experience eating a fairly wide array of unusual species, I had found that meat that tastes ?tough and gamey? is more often a case of bad butchering and sloppy handling than an intrinsic quality of a species.

To maximize the potential flavor of my bear, I dry-aged it for a week before I started experimenting. Dry-aging meat, for the uninitiated, is the process of letting meat hang out for a while at cool temperatures while allowing moisture to evaporate from it. Dry-aging accomplishes two things. First, natural enzymes in the meat begin to tenderize it by breaking down the collagen in the muscles. (Collagen is what makes tough meat feel tough, and more of it builds up in muscle tissue as an animal gets older.) Second, dry-aging allows water to evaporate out of a piece of meat, concentrating the flavor. High-end steakhouses all do this with their beef, and I have been dry-aging most of my venison in my fridge at home for years.

Once my bear was sufficiently dry-aged, the very first thing I tried was cutting some simple steaks out of a forequarter (the upper portions of the front legs) and from the backstraps (the cuts from alongside the spine that are referred to as ?pork loin? in pigs). I wanted to keep the recipe simple so as not to hide the true flavor of the meat, but I also wanted to have some fun. So I just ran with the bear theme. I pan-seared the steaks in olive oil and drizzled just a bit of honey on them. A handful of blueberries went into the pan with them (bears love blueberries almost as much as they love honey). Then I transferred the meat to a covered dish to finish cooking in the oven and deglazed the pan with a splash of Toasted Head cabernet sauvignon, which I had chosen on account of the wine?s label having a black bear on it. I made sure to cook the meat to 140 degrees and hold it there for a while, since bears, like pigs, can carry trichinosis.

My girlfriend and I sat down to eat our first bites of bear meat, drizzled with that red-wine pan sauce. The texture was good, and the backstrap cuts were a bit more tender than the forequarter cuts. The flavor was mild; it tasted more or less identical to venison?which is to say a lot like beef, only with less fat and a blander flavor. There was nothing greasy or tough about it. It looked like a thick piece of filet mignon. Between sips of the bear-bearing Toasted Head wine (which paired very nicely with the bear meat, I should add), we soon forgot that it was bear meat that we were eating. By the end of the meal, it was just dinner, no more exotic than the artichokes we served along with it.

Heartened, I started putting bear meat in everything. And once I began running it through the meat grinder, the stuff became a household staple. Think bear tacos, spaghetti with bear sauce, lime-marinated bear stir-fry served over ramen noodles.

Bear burgers in particular were a big hit. I mixed one egg with 1 pound of ground bear meat and just a touch of onion powder and pepper and broiled them under high heat. Three minutes per side seemed to get me up over 140 degrees every time, without taking the burgers beyond medium-rare. I invited some friends over to eat them, and the unanimous agreement was that they simply tasted like very good beef burgers and that nobody would ever guess they were bear.

I began to take the ground bear meat so much for granted that I confess to feeding it to a dinner guest in a ragout over angel hair pasta without thinking to tell her that she was eating bear as opposed to beef. She ate every bite. I?m still not sure whether I should tell her what she ate.

Lately I?ve found myself worrying about the dwindling supply of bear meat in my fridge and freezer. I have one whole hindquarter in my chest freezer awaiting a special bear dinner with a group of friends, but other than that and a pound or so of medallions, all I?ve got left is an array of very unusual bones that my dogs have been chewing on in the front yard. What will I do when I run out?

I?ve hesitated to take up bear-hunting in spite of the high numbers of black bears here in my home state of Virginia. As a dog owner, I?m disinclined to shoot them on account of their canine resemblance. But I realize that this is more about me than it is about the animal. Either I?ll have to get over my reluctance to actually hunt bears, or I should spend less time with my rifle in the woods and more time cruising for roadkill.

Mike Davis leaving Texas for 2013 NFL Draft

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Mike Davis announced Thursday that he will enter the 2013 NFL Draft. He had 57 receptions for 939 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior last season.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Mike Davis will enter the 2013 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Joe Schad. The decision comes as somewhat of a surprise. Davis made it clear that he had more than just his football career on his mind, however:

You won't find Davis on SB Nation's list of the top wide receiver prospects for the 2013 draft, though he could move his way up draft boards in due time. He told Schad that scouts have told him that he could be a third round pick.

The 6'2, 193-pound wideout led the Longhorns with 939 yards receiving and seven touchdowns off 57 receptions last season. Davis' 16.5 yards per reception attests to his skills as a deep threat, though an extra year in college to refine his game would likely have helped his stock.
